YES Yoga Afterschool Program
The YES Yoga Afterschool program seeks a talented teaching artist for 2025. This position entails conducting one to two afterschool sessions per week.
The ideal candidate is passionate about leading accessible, interactive, and enriching activities integrating mindfulness and emotional intelligence in every lesson. Candidates should be comfortable leading age appropriate lessons with students in Pre-K through 5th grade.
Shambhala Yoga & Dance Center is an equitable and accessible wellness space. It has been a part of the Prospect Heights, Brooklyn community for over 20 years. YES Yoga passes on the wisdom of nearly 5,000 year old yogic traditions and teaching in contemporary living. The program was developed to ensure that yoga philosophy is accessible to the community we serve through Teacher Trainings program, school partnerships and youth programming.
The YES Yoga Afterschool was established as the key youth program at Shambhala to serve high quality and innovative arts programming, rooted in mindfulness, emotional intelligence and yogic philosophy.
Residencies can include, but not limited to:
Textile Art
Theater & Performance Art
Language Arts (songwriting, storytelling, poetry, spoken word)
Visual Arts (comic book art, sketchwork, painting)
Mixed Media Production
Qualifications:
● Experience teaching elementary age group
● Experience teaching students with a wide range of socioeconomic, ethnic, racial, and
gender identities and backgrounds
● Experience with curriculum design and preparation
● A spirit of collaboration and positive attitude in teamwork
● Knowledge of NYC public school systems
● Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing classroom circumstances
● Passionate about integrating mindfulness into arts education
Job Type: Hourly/Contractor
Rate: $65/session
Schedule: Sessions run between 3:00-5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
